(collar 3) has succumbed to smothering.
02/26/2009 - And then there were ten.
We are saddened to report that a few pups (collars 6, 8 and 13) have faded, two
of undetermined cause. The third sustained injuries to his abdomen and a rear
foot, which were later repaired by the Vet, but the tissues were unable to
recover, the stress proving too great.

For this field breeding Mirjam brings an
impressive resume well beyond her field trial
accomplishments. She is a focused and driven, in-standard
bitch with moderate construction. She loves the sound of the gun! Her sire and
grandsire were proven champions and field trial dogs, but
more impressively her grandsire: BRYABA'S LIEUTENANT
CHUCK CHU - "Chuhh" - was an American Champion and
a well proven Kansas pheasant dog.
Mirjam's background speaks for itself. Having both trained
and/or hunted in no fewer than 10 different states from
Minnesota to New York, Florida to Kansas, and many points in
between, on no fewer than 12 different game species ranging
from Quail to Black Bear, she is, without question, the most
accomplished hunting Ridgeback in the U.S. today.

For this field breeding we chose to
use this handsome and super friendly boy who's pedigree
includes dogs from Australian and Czech, but mostly South
African lines - all places known for having a good
contingent of working Ridgebacks. His pedigree was
especially attractive to us with: ISIMANGA'S UKUSA - an old
South African Champion bitch we've desperately wanted to get
into our pedigrees, as well as: ANNABARH BARRISTER BROWN -
an older Australian Champion dog who was not only a Best in
Specialty winner, but an extremely well proven hunting dog
on rabbit, hare, red fox, kangaroo and feral pig.
We decided to use Déjà specifically for this breeding for
several reasons, but the three primary reasons were:
1) His temperament is like butter... smooth and easy!
2) He has a good quality voice that carries well when holding game at bay
3) He is a scent hound... his natural inclination
is to put his nose to the ground and cover it. Because his natural
instinct is to ground scent, he got our attention as this can be a challenge to
find in Ridgebacks in this country.
If the mating can produce some moderately built dogs with Déjà's ground
scenting and Mirjam's
drive and game sense, we will be very happy.
